Event description

Description

The Guelph Poetry Slam Team took last year off to make sure that Guelph's first Canadian Festival of Spoken Word was full of care and awesomeness! It is now time to crown the new Guelph Poetry Slam team to compete for this year's national title as the hometown team at CFSW 2019!

The 2019 Guelph Poetry Slam Finals!!

Poets who have slammed three times or more during the regular season may qualify for an invitation to Finals. Those that accept their invitations to GPS Finals are slamming for the right to represent Guelph in regional and national poetry slams for the next year as a member of the 2019 Guelph Poetry Slam Team and for the title of Grand Slam Champion (with the chance to compete at the 2019 Canadian Independent Poetry Slam)!

There will be appetizers and beverages (both alcoholic and not) for sale by Guelph Spoken Word volunteers. Any profits from this event will be donated toward organizing costs for the 2019 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in October!!!

About the Feature:
Guelph born artist Jessy Bell Smith, brings the unexpected to her performances.

An offering of joy, sorrow and humour, cliff-hanging notes and gentle expressions, she can deftly navigate through tenderness and longing, to bawdy irreverence. With a mixture of her originals songs and surprising renditions from an eclectic repertoire, her audience is consistently moved, and left with a sense of having shared in something special. In addition to contributing to creative works of countless local Guelph artists, she is a long standing member of much loved Canadian band, Skydiggers. Her musicality is a pleasure to behold, and a gift to all who come to listen.

Advanced tickets are $15 (plus applicable costs), $20 at the door.

Doors are at 7:30pm.

Show starts at 8:00pm sharp.

**Our venue for GPS Finals is physically accesible for the audience**

All Guelph Spoken Word events are promoted as consent-positive spaces; we ask that all persons receive explicit consent before physically engaging another. Same goes for deep conversations and advice/feedback.

Language and content of GSW events can sometimes be intense and triggering, while GPS is an all ages event and we do most often have an active listener on hand, attendees' discretion is advised.
