Description

RIC Centre hosts Growing Your Business seminars to help entrepreneurs fast-track the commercialization process. February's seminar will focus on the topic of Accessing Government Funding. The featured speakers are from Ontario Centres of Excellence, Insight Nanofluidics, and Business Development Bank of Canada. This event will familiarize you to the several strategies to gain access to and obtain government funding as well as enable networking opportunities for start-ups, service providers, and government organizations.

John-MacRitchie--size

John MacRitchie, Regional Director, Ontario Centre of Excellence

John leads the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) central Ontario business development team developing and managing industry-academic projects and start-up opportunities in the region. His team’s portfolio of Ontario start-ups covers medical devices, energy, and information and communications technologies. They include Simple Systems, Cellaegis Devices, ScarX, Chematria, Rna Diagnostics, FlowJem, Eidosearch, Bionym, MyVoice, Tekla, Pathcore, Calavera Surgical Design, Hydrostor, and Temporal Power. John serves as the OCE sector lead for Information and Communications Technology and Digital Media and is a member of the business advisory council of HTX – The Health Technology Exchange.

Christina-Muller-size

Christina Mueller, CEO & President, Insight Nanofluidics

Christina Mueller is the CEO and President of Insight Nanofluidics. She moved to Toronto from Germany for her graduate studies and was co-founder of Insight in 2009. In January 2014, Christina finished her PhD in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto focussing on high resolution imaging applications. Throughout her PhD Christina has tested and developed Insight's flagship product. As a Martin Walmsley Fellow she will now work for Insight Nanofluidics, commercializing an in situ solution for conventional electron microscopy.

Michele Cooper, Branch Manager, Business Development Bank of Canada

Michele Cooper has worked with BDC for 10 yrs in several different roles including business development, underwriting and branch management. For the past four years she has been managing the Toronto Entrepreneurship Centre, where she built up a KBI practice for her team. In October, she became the Manager of the Mississauga Business Centre where she is responsible for a team of 12 Account Managers.

Prior to working at BDC, Michele spent 3 yrs working for the Federal Government in both Ottawa & Toronto, as a Research Assistant in the Prime Minister’s Office and a Constituency Assistant in a Cabinet Minister’s office. Michele has a Bachelor of International Business degree from Carleton University.
