HANDS ON TINY HOUSE BUILDING WORKSHOP, with Tiny Healthy Homes

Workshop Facilitator: Ben Garratt

We are pleased to finally announce our Vancouver Island hands-on building workshop. Tiny Healthy Homes has been teaching these hands-on courses for years and has teamed up with Tiny House Courses B.C. to bring one to the big island, with more in the works around B.C.!

Ohhhh, this is going to be fun! We have five days of intense hands on learning as we build a tiny house. Our experienced team are all Tiny House builders and it consists of: three Red Seal carpenters, an electrician, a plumber and three Tiny house owner/builders. All have a passion for teaching and sharing their knowledge.

Our goals

  • To have you use power tools correctly, safely and with confidence.
  • Read and understand building plans.
  • For you to understand how tiny houses (and most houses) are built.
  • How to manage a build schedule and sub-trades.

Costs and Course Capacity

The cost for the 5-day course is $990 (not including food and accommodation). A $500 non-refundable deposit is REQUIRED to hold your place through this registration platform.

Seats will sell out quickly, but you will have until June 25 to pay for the remainder of the course. You can pay for the remainder of the course (not the deposit) via Paypal to info@tinyhousecoursesbc.com, e-transfer or personal cheque to Tiny House Courses BC.

NOTE: This course is limited to 15 people and we do require that all registrants have already taken the Intro to Tiny House Design and Building Weekend Courses. There are currently three weekend intro courses running prior to the Build Workshop week, so if you haven't taken one, you can sign up for one of the following:

This course is highly valuable to take on its own, and since it covers SO MUCH in terms of theory and design that it will enable us to get right to the nuts and bolts of building in the workshop. Please email us if you have any questions about your eligibility.

Meals and Accommodations

Meals, and camping or dorm-style accommodation can be booked through our VERY accommodating venue, O.U.R. Ecovillage. https://ourecovillage.org/food-and-accomodation/:

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Yes. You must be 18 years of age, and have taken either Kenton Zerbin's Intro to Tiny House Building Course Weekend Workshop, or one of Ben Garratt's Weekend Workshops. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please email us to ask.

Do you have couples rates? Can my spouse/partner/teenager attend with me?

No, unfortunately not. This course is highly in demand and we want to make it available to as many people as possible, while keeping the instructor-to-student ratio high. It's also a highly intensive course run over a very short period of time, and as such we ask that guests and partners not accompany the paying participant so that you can get maximum value for your time, and the instructors can give you all their attention instead of trying to manage too many people!

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Directions to O.U.R. Ecovillage can be found here: https://ourecovillage.org/directions/

What's the refund policy?

Your $500 deposit is NON-refundable and will serve to hold your place. If something comes up and you cannot make it, it is your responsibility to find another student to take your spot. The remainder of the course fees ($490) are due at the start of the course date.

Is alcohol/smoking allowed on the property?

Yes, alcohol after working hours. There are designated smoking areas. No drugs allowed onsite. Check out the visitor guidelines here: https://ourecovillage.org/visitor-guidelines/
