Event description

Description

Hanif Abdurraqib is a poet, essayist, and cultural critic from Columbus, Ohio, and one of the most talked about writers of his generation. He is the author of the critically acclaimed They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us which explores the political, social, racial condition of our world today through the language of music and culture.

His new book, Go Ahead in the Rain: Notes to a Tribe Called Quest, is the first chronicle of A Tribe Called Quest—the visionary, award-winning group whose jazz-infused records and socially conscious lyrics revolutionized rap in the early 1990s.

Hear Abdurraqib in conversation with curation editor of BuzzFeed News, Elamin Abdelmahmoud.

Q&A and book signing to follow. Books available for purchase.

Please don't print your tickets! We're trying to reduce paper waste for Salon events, so please don't bother printing your ticket. We'll either either scan your ticket on your smartphone or quickly find your name on our tablets and check you in.

Arrive early, meet people. The talk starts at 7pm, but doors open at 6pm, so come early so you can chat with some of your fellow literature lovers, and make new friends. As with all Salon events, we'll have a full bar with a selection of beers, wine, and liquor, as well as sandwiches and snacks.

A note about tickets: As most Appel Salon events are free, it is our policy to overbook. In case of a full program, your ticket reservation may not guarantee admission. We recommend you arrive early.
