It’s time for the perfectly curated happy-hour cocktail. This afternoon we’re serving up five of the tastiest Canadian authors who’ll dive into their closets and share why they wear what they wear and why certain items are more significant than others.

Geoff Berner

Geoff Berner graduated from the University of British Columbia Creative Writing Program, where he received the Harry and Hilda Smith Foundation scholarship for top undergraduate student. An internationally touring singer/songwriter and accordionist who has released six albums and played in 17 countries, he lives in Vancouver.

Claire Cameron

Claire Cameron’s writing has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Globe and Mail and The Millions, where she is a staff writer. Her first novel, The Line Painter, won the Northern Lit Award and was nominated for an Arthur Ellis Crime Writing Award for Best First Novel. She lives in Toronto with her husband and two sons.

Susan Juby

Susan Juby has written a number of acclaimed novels for teenagers and adults, including the bestselling Alice, I Think, a Rolling Stone Best Top 40 Novel and the first of her Alice MacLeod trilogy, which was made into a successful television series. Juby lives with her husband and their dog in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Taylor Lambert

Taylor Lambert is a journalist who has published three previous books, including the Calgary bestseller, Rising: Stories of the 2013 Alberta Flood. To pay for tuition and later to offset his freelance writing, Lambert worked moving furniture, which led to the idea to write a book centered on the moving industry: Darwin’s Moving. He lives in Calgary.

Susin Nielsen

Susin Nielsen got her start writing a spec script for the popular television series Degrassi Junior High. She’s also written many novels, including The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen, which counted the Governor General’s Literary Award and three Young Readers’ Choice Awards among its many accolades. She lives in Vancouver with her husband and son.

Heather O’Neill

Heather O’Neill is a novelist, short-story writer and essayist. Her work, which includes Lullabies for Little Criminals, The Girl Who Was Saturday Night and Daydreams of Angels, has been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction and the Scotiabank Giller Prize in two consecutive years. O’Neill lives in Montreal.

Bill Richardson

Bill Richardson, a winner of Canada’s Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour and former CBC Radio host, has written several highly acclaimed books for children. They include The Aunts Come Marching and the novel After Hamelin, winner of the Ontario Library Association’s Silver Birch Award. Richardson lives in Vancouver.
