3 Blind Mice have prepared a wonderful harvest dinner to raise funds for the Farmers' Market Coupon Program

On Saturday September 23, the Salt Spring Community Market Society (SSCMS) will be partnering with Salt Spring Island Community Services (SSICS) to host a dinner at Bullock Lake Farm. Prepared by the local chef team known as 3 Blind Mice this seasonal farm to fork meal will raise funds to provide fresh local food to Salt Spring Islanders facing economic barriers.

The SSCMS has been partnering with Community Services at every Tuesday Market since 2012 when the Farmers Market Nutritional Coupon Program was begun by the BC Association of Farmers Markets (BCAFM) in partnership with the Province of British Columbia.

“There is a great sense of pride to hear how happy farmers are to be helping to feed our local families and seniors. We love to see families with kids excited to purchase fresh, local food foods. There is nothing better than watching the joy on a child’s face as they eat a strawberry or cucumber that has just been given to them by a farmer,” says Rob Pingle, Tuesday Market coordinator.

“The program supports local farmers and offers fresh local food to those in need, facilitating an alternative to standing in food bank lineups for some of the people that find it very difficult,” says Simone Cazabon, program coordinator for SSICS.

“We know there is more demand for this program than can currently be supplied. So, we are thrilled to have an opportunity for individuals to gather for a great meal to support this program, our local farmers and those most in need,” says Bree Eagle, SSCMS president.

Each person attending the dinner will be supporting a family or senior to buy fresh local food from their farmers’ market one time and there is also the opportunity to make a charitable donation. It’s amazing how far a donation can go for example $320 will support a family or senior for the entire Tuesday Farmers’ Market season, from June to October.
