Hastings Medieval Festival, 7th Annual

About this event

This is the premier event for sword fighting in Canada. The festival is located, quite appropriately for any history buffs, just outside the village of Hastings. It is a 3 day festival that has expanded significantly over the years.

More Sword Fighting groups are being added.

The festival showcases many different types of sword fighting, including:

  • Buhurt, also known as ACL (Armoured Combat League), IMCF (International Medieval Combat Federation), Battle of the Nations
  • HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) - German & Italian styles
  • LARP (Live Action Role Play)
  • SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism)
  • Vikings
  • Olympic Fencing
  • MACE (Medieval Armoured Combat Entertainment)
  • Okichitaw Indigenous Martial Arts (Cree based)

Each sword fighting group gets a chance to demonstrate what they do at the main fighting list area and they also have a booth that guests can talk with them to get more detailed information.

In addition to sword fighting groups, there are also artisans, vendors, dancers and musicians.

Kroes Croquettes is the food vendor at the festival.

There are activities to do as well, including:

  • Axe Throwing (Adult & Child)
  • Archery (Adult & Child)
  • Challenge a Knight (for children under 10 years of age)
