PARENT LECTURE: THURSDAY, APRIL 20 | 7:00pm
The Maker Movement, innovation, and design thinking are current buzz words. Parents are invited to come unpack these concepts by joining Dr. Susan Crichton, Associate Dean from the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan, for a session to explore "Why Design Matters."
Director of the Innovative Learning Centre at the UBC’s Okanagan campus, Dr. Crichton has taught in rural and urban K-12 schools in British Columbia, California, and Australia. Dr. Crichton’s research explores innovative ways to foster creativity and imagination for educators and their students. She has worked closely with Dr. Elizabeth Childs to bring the Design Thinking and the Maker Movement to educators in British Columbia, Alberta, and East Africa. Dr. Crichton and Dr. Childs will be facilitating a Maker Day for our SMS Grade 11 and 12 students on Friday, April 21. (http://www.mytrainingbc.ca/maker/downloads/Taking_Making_into_Classrooms.pdf).

When & Where
St. Margaret's School
Founded in 1908, St. Margaret’s School (SMS) is an all-girl, independent day and boarding school located in the City of Victoria on the scenic west coast of British Columbia, Canada. Tucked away on 22-acres of park-like land in the Lakehill area bordering on Blenkinsop Lake and a network of trails, it is hard to imagine a more perfect environment in which to learn and grow. SMS is a community that cares deeply about girls; we have been dedicated to their education, development and well-being for over a century. Together, we help girls become powerful learners with the knowledge, attitudes and courage to thrive – in their studies and careers, and in life.
