NL SUPPORT and the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) are pleased to co-present a one-day education day about health economics. Two sessions will be offered:

  1. Health Technology Assessment and Patient Engagement by Ken Bond, CADTH’s Director of Patient Engagement and International Affairs
  2. Introduction in health economics by Dr. Hai Nguyen, Health Economist and Assistant Professor at School of Pharmacy, Memorial University

Participants may sign up for one or both sessions and could join face-to-face or remotely.
There are no cost to attend, however space is limited.

Session 1: Health Technology Assessment and Patient Engagement
June 7, 10 – 12 noon

Speaker:
Ken Bond, CADTH’s Director of Patient Engagement and International Affairs, will provide an introduction to the work and services of CADTH. Including
how patients can be involved in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and recommendation development. By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the rationale for engaging patients in HTA
  • Understand how patients are involved in HTA and recommendation development
  • Have an idea where is HTA going in the future
  • Know what services CADTH offers

LUNCH 12 – 01:00 pm

Session 2: Introduction in Health Economics
June 7, 1 pm – 4:30 pm
Dr. Hai Nguyen, Health Economist and Assistant Professor at School of Pharmacy, Memorial University, will provide an
introduction to cost effectiveness analysis. By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the basic concepts and definitions in cost effectiveness
  • Understand the distinction between different types of cost effectiveness
  • Know what kind of methods are used for calculating effectiveness
  • Understand the interpretation of cost effectiveness results

The workshop will be of particular interest to health researchers, students and health policy organizations.
