Health GIS: Spatial Thinking in Applied Research (STAR), a GIS Day Event
Event Information
Description
A GIS Day event to promote and showcase GIS research in health and other applications, Health GIS: Spatial Thinking in Applied Research, is organized by the Geography of Health research group at the O’Brien Institute for Public Health. This free event, which will be held Wednesday, November 15 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm, is open to anyone with an interest in spatial thinking in applied research.
The day is purposely being hosted during National Geographic's Geography Awareness Week.
“Geography is important in our daily lives and helps us to make effective decisions. It impacts all Canadians in a variety of ways. Where we live, the air we breathe, and how we move and access health services are all part of Geography. National Geographic launched Geography Awareness Week in 1987 to raise awareness about all aspects of geography. GIS (Geographic Information System) Day is celebrated on the Wednesday during this week. GIS is both an analytical tool and a science. Geographies of Health is a larger concept that integrates the scientific principles of public health, epidemiology, geography and statistics to study the interactions between people and environment, health, disease, and health care delivery. We hope you can join us to celebrate GIS day on November 15th."
