Event description

Description

The airline industry is an unexpected source of inspiration at Toronto's St. Michael's Hospital. For example, hospital researchers have developed a "black box" for use in operating rooms, similar to black boxes on airplanes.

The Surgical Black Box improves patient safety and outcomes by identifying errors and teaching surgeons how to prevent them. Another example of airline influence is simulation. Much like flight simulators train pilots, St. Michael's uses state-of-the-art patient simulators to train healthcare teams how to respond to critical situations in a controlled, safe environment.

Join in for a live simulation and surgical black box demonstration using Toronto Public Library's telepresence technology.

Presented as part of The Cutting Edge program series: Exploring new ideas at the intersection of health and technology. Supported by the Krembil Foundation.
