Event description
A workshop to help you support and build healthy eating and active living environment in your child care. Available in French on Oct 8.

About this Event

Child care educators and supervisors are invited to an interactive workshop hosted by Ottawa Public Health. Join your colleagues from the child care community to develop skills and confidence to implement the Healthy Eating and Active Living Guidelines. The workshop is facilitated by a registered dietitian and physical educator. Through hand-on activities, you will explore ways to create a positive eating environment in which children learn to enjoy healthy foods and help children practice new movements and stay active throughout their day. All participants will receive resources such as activity and lesson booklets with ideas for games that incorporate active play and learning about food and healthy eating.

New! In addition to all the resources, each child care centre will also receive a copy of the Paint Your Plate with Vegetables and Fruit: A Tool Kit for Ontario Child Care Providers. This Tool Kit contains practical ideas for learning activities, games, recipes, resources for parents and sample policies for child care settings to make it easier for children to enjoy vegetables and fruit every day.

Topics covered include:

  • Strategies on implementing Ottawa Healthy Eating and Active Living Guidelines
  • Creating positive health eating environment
  • New Canada’s food guide
  • Paint your Plate with Vegetables and Fruit –a new resource to help children love veggies and fruit
