Hungry for healthy ideas?

Childcare cooks are invited to an interactive workshop being hosted by Ottawa Public Health. Join your colleagues from the childcare community for a full day of learning and skills development as you explore the Healthy Eating Guidelines.

Through presentations and hands-on activity, participants will explore the principles of healthy eating for toddlers and preschoolers within the childcare environment.

Healthy Eating in Childcare: 8:30am to 10:15am

(A session for Cooks, Educators and Supervisors)

  • An introduction to the Healthy Eating Guidelines
  • Tips and strategies for implementing healthy eating practices
  • Nutrition recommendations based on Canada’s Food Guide

Healthy Cooking in Childcare: 10:30am to Noon & 1:00pm to 4:00pm

(A session for Cooks)

  • Considerations for menu planning using Canada’s Food Guide
  • Techniques for efficient kitchen management
  • Tips for reading labels and recipes
  • Elements of food safety

All participants will receive a FREE copy of the Healthy Eating and Active Living Guidelines Background Manual s as well as a collection of related resources.

*Participants are welcome to bring their own refreshments to the workshop. There are no food vendors at this location, although a number of restaurants are located within driving distance.

**Free on-site parking is available. This site is also accessible by OC Transpo.
