Description
Promoting healthy weights is an important yet complex public health issue in British Columbia and Canada. We invite you to join health professionals from across the province on June 21st for a discussion about how health policy and practice can promote healthy weights while protecting and promoting mental well-being.
Hosted by Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), the Healthy Weights Forum will introduce new concepts and ideas presented in the recent discussion paper, From Weight to Well-Being: Time for a Shift in Paradigms? The session will summarize new research about the interrelationships among obesity, overweight, weight bias and mental well-being and discuss emerging paradigms for addressing weight-related issues.
Forum highlights:
· Review of Weight to Well-Being evidence and concepts, and discussion on emerging health-centred paradigms
· Keynote speaker Dr. Gail McVey is a psychologist and health systems scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children. She is a national leader in the prevention of weight-related disorders and mental health promotion
· Interactive panel discussion about opportunities for practical application of Weight to Well-Being concepts into health initiatives and the overall health system. Panelists include: Dr. Gail McVey, Dr. Gail MacKean, Meghan Day, Lee Johnston and Dr. Michael Lyon
