Toronto and Region Conservation
101 Exchange Avenue Vaughan, Ontario L4K 5R6 CanadaDescription
Heat pump technology can drastically reduce building energy usage, operating costs and carbon emissions. Join us for an afternoon workshop focusing on air-source heat pumps. This FREE workshop will provide an overview of heat pump research results from projects conducted by Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA)'s Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program (STEP), the Ontario Climate Consortium (OCC) and The Atmospheric Fund (TAF). Discussion topics will include:
-
the current technology, policy and incentive landscape in Ontario,
-
barriers to heat pump deployment,
-
tools and guidelines for building owners, as well as
-
results from actual air-source heat pump installations.
As seating is limited, pre-registration is required.
Agenda
12:00-12:40 - Networking Lunch - A free lunch will be provided
12:40-1:00 - Introduction
1:00-1:45 - Heat Pump Barriers in the MURB Context - Presenter: The Ontario Climate Consortium
The project team will present results from an assessment of market, behavioural and political-institutional barriers to heat pump penetration in Ontario’s multi-unit residential market. The team will seek input from the audience on the relative magnitude of barriers (high-medium-low) using an interactive voting app.
1:45-2:30 - Pumping Energy Savings - Presenter: The Atmospheric Fund
This talk will discuss Pumping Energy Savings, an on-going TAF project that has developed tools and guidelines for building owners considering heat pump retrofits. It will also present preliminary results from a domestic hot water gas absorption heat pump retrofit in a Toronto multi-unit residential building.
2:30-2:45 - Coffee Break
2:45-3:30 - Ductless Heat Pump Retrofit Case Study - Presenter: The Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program
This talk will present results from ductless heat pump retrofits in an electrically-heated Brantford townhouse complex. Project partners: TRCA, TAF, Bloom Clean Technology Demonstration Program, Cricket Energy, Jama Property Management, Daikin and Mitsubishi.
3:30-4:15 - Gas Absorption Heat Pump Evaluation - Presenter: The Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program
This talk will present results from a gas absorption heat pump retrofit at the Archetype Sustainable House in Vaughan, ON. Project partners: TRCA, TAF, Ryerson University, Union Gas and Enbridge.
4:15-4:30 - Closing Remarks
