Workshop Description:

Stress isn’t always a bad thing though it can become a problem when we experience too much of it for too long or when we can’t recover from stress. Learning how to manage it is key to helping BC children and youth flourish in school and in their lives. This interactive workshop will introduce participants to an evidence-backed range of practical strategies and resources and leave them with a better understanding of what stress is and how to support young people to manage it. Participants will also have the opportunity to shape future opportunities geared to supporting Greater Victoria youth service providers in their important work in helping youth survive and thrive in our stress-filled world.

Presenters Bio’s:

Cindy Andrew is a former teacher, child and youth advocate, mom and program consultant with The Psychology Foundation of Canada and has a similar role with the Centre for Addictions Research of BC at UVic – all roles focused on helping young people thrive!

Katie Horton was originally a "Vancouver Island girl" but has worked for the McCreary Centre Society in Vancouver for 2 years as the Community Research Coordinator. Having worked with diverse populations of youth in previous jobs, she is involved mainly with the youth engagement aspect of McCreary's work- creating and delivering workshops for youth as well as working closely with McCreary's Youth Research Academy (a group of youth with experience in government care) assisting to train them in research skills.
