Provides insights into the unique needs of older adults when participating in recreation or leisure activities in municipal or retirement communities. This training provides evidence-based approaches to improve the experience of participants by implementing the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Aging. Topics include ageism, program planning, and the importance that physical literacy plays in sustained long-term health, increased social connectedness, improved general mental and physical well-being and a better quality of life.

Participants who successfully complete this training will have the tools to:

  • Design activity plans to enhance a participant’s experience,
  • Gain knowledge, tips, and resources to enhance programs,
  • Build healthy relationships in all areas of programming for older adults, and
  • Create environments and spaces that foster healthy active aging.

Learners who successfully complete this training will also receive a nationally-recognized HIGH FIVE® Certificate.

Primary Audience: Front-line leaders of older adult’s recreation, sport and/or play programs; Program Supervisors/Coordinators; Older Adult Group Fitness and Aqua Fitness Instructors

Mode of Training: In-Person

Course Materials: Learners will be provided access to a Principles of Healthy Aging Toolkit

It is important to recognize that this event will adhere to any Government of Saskatchewan Public Health Orders that are in effect at the time of delivery.

The COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing. To reduce the chances of transmission, participants are encouraged to take preventative actions, such as masking, social distancing and regular hand washing over the duration of the course. If you are feeling sick in any way, or have tested positive for COVID-19 within the five days prior to the course, you are asked to cancel your registration and not attend the event.

Any behaviour that intentionally threatens the physical or emotional health and safety of the Facilitator/Instructor or another participant before, during or after training will be cause for immediate expulsion.
