Description

On behalf of the graduate student organizers in the Department of History, we invite you to attend a round-table event titled: History in the Era of 'Fake News'. This panel is scheduled for Monday 2 October 2017 in SS2098 (Natalie Zemon Davis Conference Room) from 5:30pm to 7pm.

This round-table of five academics practicing the discipline of history in various capacities will discuss the role of our discipline in these times of anti-intellectualism, "fake news," and revisionist political movements in North America and globally.

The setting will be informal and a set of four circulated questions will be posed of each participant. Each round-table member will have a couple of minutes to answer or they may respond to the comments made by other panelists. Following the prepared questions, we will open up the conversation to the audience. The circulated questions will be broad and we have encouraged the panelists to relate them to their own specific themes of study and research focus. The goal of this round-table is to address the current and future direction of our discipline.

The panelists for History in the Era of 'Fake News' are:

Prof. Nhung Tuyet Tran

Prof. Mohamad Tavakoli-Targhi

Justin Douglas, PhD Candidate

Dr. Lilia Topouvoza

Prof. Nick Terpstra, Chair of the Department of History UTSG

This building and room are accessible. Children are welcome.

There will be snacks and refreshments. We hope to see you there.
