About this event
This month, HOLD UP pays homage to the OG alt-girl with GHOST WORLD (2001). The epitome of the Gen X high school experience, GHOST WORLD follows cynical, neo-cool best friends Enid and Rebecca as they face the monotony of suburban life after high school. As new friendships develop, old friendships fade, and everything still sucks. It's a coming-of-age story for the anti-capitalist, non-conformist anti-hero. Enid Coleslaw walked so April Ludgate and Tina Belcher could run!!
About The Film
Enid (Thora Birch - Hocus Pocus, American Beauty) and Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson - Black Widow, Lost in Translation) are best friends whose only plans for the future are to get jobs and live together. Faced with the aimless monotony of post-graduation adult life, Enid sets her interests on Seymour (Steve Buschemi - Reservoir Dogs, The Big Lebowski), a quirky middle-aged loner and retrophiliac, it becomes clear that Enid's dedication to her pact with Rebecca is fleeting. Adapted from the cult comic book of the same name, GHOST WORLD is directed by Terry Zwigoff (Bad Santa, High School Confidential) and features Brad Renfro (The Client, Tom and Huck) and David Cross (Arrested Development, Mr. Show).
