Holiday Beading Circle

Join us for the very first Rivers to Success Holiday Beading Circle and get a start on your holiday beading projects while coming together in mentorship! You can bring your own projects or download some templates we’ve prepared.

Megan Feheley (they/them) is a two spirit Cree (Ililiw, Chapleau Cree First Nation) interdisciplinary artist, curator and designer living and working out of Toronto, Ontario. They are a development assistant at Indspire, and are finishing up their BFA in Indigenous Visual Culture at OCAD University. They incorporate beadwork into much of their art practice, and love to teach and host beading circles whenever they can.

For this beading series, please be prepared with your own beads and supplies.

For those who are new to beading, there is a list of materials you will need below, as well as links to various stores nationwide, many of which have online stores and ship nationally or have curbside pickup options. Purchasing from a bead store closer to you may reduce shipping times, however it is best to contact a store directly to see what each store’s shipping policy and schedule is.

If you need to order online, please order ASAP so that your materials can arrive in time for our first session. Materials and shipping should come to approximately $30.00. Links to examples of what to look for when ordering is also included in the materials list.

If you’re unsure what to buy or require assistance, please email mfeheley@indspire.ca and they can help you pick out the supplies you need.

You will need:

• 2-3 colours of size 10 or size 11 seedbeads (examples: size 10 and size 11)
• Beading thread (examples: a spool like this, this, or a bobbin like this)
• Size 11 beading needles (examples: these or these work well)
• Stiffened beading felt/foundation (example)
• Scissors
• Paper
• Pencil
• Something to put your beads on (a shallow dish, a bit of fabric, or some kind of small/shallow container is helpful so they don’t roll around)
