Event description

Description

On September 26th, join us at Tomoka Coffee as we celebrate the homecoming of one Honen's Pianoscapes Homecoming (painted pianos) as it moves to its home on International Avenue inside Tomoka Coffee (3513 17 Ave SE) .

Pianoscapes is Honens' gift to Calgary for the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation. The project was inspired by the desire to enrich the community through providing access to music-making; and to encourage collaboration between business, music, and visual art. Five pianos are being transformed with designs that represent local artists’ unique reflections of Canada.

All pianos were unvieled at a free event on 7 September on Stephen Avenue to kick off the 2017 Honens Festival. The five Festival pianists - Luca Buratto, Katherine Chi, Dmitry Nesterov, Jon Kimura Parker, and Dinuk Wijeratne - each performed a short piece on the newly transformed pianos. The event culminated in a surprise ensemble rendition of O Canada.

The impact and legacy of Canada 150 will continue as the pianos wil be placed in accessible community and public spaces across Calgary, and made available for free public programming. The pianos will stay at the TELUS Convention Centre until they are moved to their new homes.
