Description

You are invited to our inaugural event because we think you are one of us

Topic: Finding the balance…what does that even mean?

Balance. It’s the big buzz word these days. Everyone is talking about it, and a lot of women look like they are achieving it. But beneath the smiles and the “I’m doing fine,” a lot of us are feeling pretty overwhelmed with figuring out how to find the balance of work, family and self. We’re asking ourselves, “How do other woman do it?”

The truth is that we are not alone, and it’s time to open up and talk about it. The search for the elusive “B” word is challenging us all and we’re not afraid to say it.

Please join us as we dig into sharing real life stories and tactics from each other and from women who inspire us. We won’t promise that you’ll find balance, but we will promise that after this evening, you will not feel alone. You’ll feel like you are a part of a community of pretty amazing women. Women who don’t strike the perfect balance, but still manage to find success despite it.

Our speakers:

ANDREA SCOTT, Co-owner/Co-founder skoah Inc.

Andrea Scott is a mother of 4 kids under 10. She is the co-owner, co-founder of skoah Inc and CEO of skoah Franchising Inc. Skoah is a Vancouver based company with 15 locations in Canada and the USA, creating a new category offering a single service facials only concept, that focuses on empathy and personalisation. Her vision through franchising is to create an opportunity for others to become entrepreneurs and to mentor and support those on their journey to business ownership through skoah.

In 2016 she won the Veuve Clicquot Canadian Business Woman Award, and is an active mentor of women in business and volunteers time with the Forum For Women Entrepreneurs.

Andrea's thoughts on "balance": In addition to who I am, here's who I am not. I am not convinced 'balance' is achievable. I think balance is day dependant. This is mostly because as a parent and an entrepreneur, both major aspects of my life are by nature, unpredictable. So coming to expect imbalance at times makes the occurrence expected, not something to be fearful of. I believe in the "what's the worst that can happen" mantra in life, and if I can live with that result. I embrace chaos as a transition point. It's usually been the step before something great.

SAMANTHA TAYLOR, VP Marketing North America, Vega

Samantha Taylor, VP Marketing for Vega in Vancouver is a Mum of two boys, an avid traveler, and lover of being active. Her day job involves leading a passionate team of marketers who believe in a big future for plant-based living. Outside of work, she and her husband try to keep her 8 and 11 year old boys happy and of course, behaved. As a family, travel is a favourite pastime as is being active exploring all the amazingness of British Columbia and that means a messy house and lots of opportunities to have it ‘together’ more. Prior to her role at Vega, Samantha spent 15 years at Kraft Foods in Toronto.

Samantha's thoughts on "balance": I believe “balance” is incredibly personal and there is truly no “answer”…and much like the advice given to newly married couples, compromise is important! I make trade-offs all over the place, which as an A-type / achievement-junkie is challenging…but I lean on my instincts to focus on what is most important and embrace what falls out of that.

Please note that we will be collecting $10 at the door to help fund the wine!

Who we are:

Honestly? We're four ladies that are working hard to succeed in the business world and at home. We love our families, we love our jobs. We aren't sure that "balance" is a thing, but we do know that community and finding time to play, most definitely is.

We're trying Honestly Speaking out. Reaching out to all of you like-minded women in the hopes that we can create community with one another. We'll share some stories, some laughs, some wine and hopefully leave the evening with a sense that we are all doing better than fine.
