Greetings!

I am reaching out on behalf of the Provincial Hospice Working Group to update you on the Hospice Care Alliance of British Columbia and invite you to our upcoming webinar on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

In 2019, over 40 expert stakeholders participated in a roundtable discussion convened by the Provincial Hospice Working Group (PHWG), composed of the Sovereign Order of Saint John, Victoria Hospice, the British Columbia Centre for Palliative Care, the British Columbia Hospice Palliative Care Association, and the Vancouver Island Federation of Hospices.

During the roundtable, we made a commitment to drive the hospice care sector forward and establish the Hospice Care Alliance of British Columbia. This call-to-action, along with the 10 steps prioritized by the roundtable stakeholders, was released in August 2020. Read the report here: Hospice Care in British Columbia: The Path Forward Report.

While the COVID-19 pandemic obliged many members of the PHWG to shift focus to the immediate needs of individuals living with life-limiting illnesses and their caregivers, we were able to continue some important work identified in the 10 steps. For example, in 2021, the BC Centre for Palliative Care and the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association collaborated with eighteen hospice organizations in BC to establish a set of core competencies for hospice staff and volunteers – a first-of-its-kind resource in the province.
