Augmented Reality (AR) blurs the boundary between the physical and digital worlds. In AR’s current exploration phase, innovators are beginning to create compelling and contextually rich applications that enhance a user’s everyday experiences. In this panel discussion, Dr. Helen Papagiannis—a world-leading expert in the field— joined by Autodesk experts Ian Hooper and Sarah Nason, will explore AR: how it’s evolving, where the opportunities are, and where it’s headed.

Discussion subjects include:

  • Haptic technology syncs what you see with how something feels
  • Augmented sound and hearables alter the way you listen to your environment

INVITED SPEAKER

Dr. Helen Papagiannis is internationally recognized as a leading expert in the field of Augmented Reality (AR). She has been working with AR for 12 years as a researcher, designer, and technology evangelist with a focus on storytelling and creating compelling experiences in AR. She is the author of “Augmented Human: How Technology is Shaping the New Reality” In 2016, Dr. Papagiannis was named among the Top 100 Influencers of Augmented Reality (#8) by Onalytica, and a finalist for the prestigious World Technology Award. She was also named among the NEXT 100 Top Influencers (#16) of the Digital Media Industry in 2013.

PANEL MODERATORS

Ian Hooper is a Principal Interaction Designer in the Design & Creation Products division of Autodesk. Ian finds ways for users to have more natural and compelling experiences by bringing game-making tools and technologies to architecture, engineering and design professionals.

Sarah Nason is a developer on the SketchBook team at Autodesk. She writes code to facilitate artists’ work by day, and tinkers with pinball machines and fire art at night. She is passionate about enabling others’ self-expression, and has a particular focus on accessibility and equity.
