Big companies understand the importance of branding, they often have a full team focused on branding. As an entrepreneur, the brand is called “YOU”.

Why is it that some entrepreneurs are highly successful, while others – who are as competent and knowledgeable – are not? Often it’s a question of branding. Some might want to argue that their knowledge and competence is the difference – but I know plenty of very successful entrepreneurs who aren’t more knowledgeable than the others. Some might say it’s about connections – true, but connections are highly correlated by the brand the entrepreneur was able to create around himself or herself.

We live in an era where everyone Googles each other – what does your brand say about you? When people come into contact with your marketing collateral – does it reflect the level of professionalism you want and they expect? What is your reputation, what are you known for or renowned for? What is the client experience you offer?

These are all part of your brand management.

Today’s clients are looking for more than just a product or service. They’re looking for a personable brand to buy from. People do business with people, first and foremost. When thinking about branding most entrepreneurs think creative logo, flashy colors or fancy brochures. Building a brand is about creating recognition amongst your clients, your potential clients and influencers, what I like to call a holistic experience.

If you’re an entrepreneur who isn’t branding intentionally, rest assured your competitor will waste no time in branding you, which may hurt your image, your bottom line and the lifestyle you want to live and provide for your family. Be proactive and brand yourself intentionally.
