Description

How do you lead a responsive organization in uncertain times?

Organizations around the world are struggling to keep up with accelerating shifts in markets, technology and culture. Those that are succeeding not only have strong products, people, and technology — they also operate in a fundamentally different way. The founder of August, Mark Raheja, and his team call this new paradigm responsive because it creates organizations capable of processing change at speed and harnessing it to reveal new ways of organizing and working in today’s environment.

For over half a century, movements like lean manufacturing, learning organizations and agile software development have introduced new models for growing organizations. In recent years, systems like Holacracy have taken center stage, favoring continuous reorganization and distributed authority in the face of constant change. In the meantime, a sense of urgency grows inside today’s leading organizations. If the outcome of success is growth, but today’s operating environment is hostile to scale, what should the ‘end-ups’ do?

Join Mark for this highly participatory talk, during which he’ll reveal a set of first principles for organizing in uncertainty and the role of mindset in enabling change. He'll also share five leadership practices proven to unblock and accelerate change in any organization.

Speaker:

Mark Raheja, Founder, August

Mark Raheja is a founder of August — an NYC and London-based organization design and transformation consultancy that partners with large institutions to help change the way they lead, organize and work.

Inspired by a deep commitment to reinvent organizations, Mark is sought out by leadership teams around the world as a speaker, advisor and coach. For over fifteen years, he has worked closely with Fortune 500 leaders — including at Google, Chanel, GE and PepsiCo — helping them transition to a faster, more adaptive and human operating model.

Mark’s work centres around one crucial riddle: How can we organize at scale in a complex and uncertain world — and not break? It’s a challenge that requires rethinking almost every aspect of how enterprises function — from structure, strategy and decision rights to how we collaborate, innovate and reward.

Beyond his ongoing participation as a keynote in the Lean Startup speaker series, and recent talks at Creative Mornings and EDIT in Toronto, Mark recently co-designed and taught a masterclass in Responsive Organization Design which was refined through workshops at Harvard and Yale.
