Description

Explore the definition and purpose of meditation, how to sit, how to set up a meditation session, different meditation techniques, and how to deal with obstacles to meditation. This six-week program will include teachings, readings, guided meditations and discussions. This is the second course in a 14 part series introducing Buddhist meditation and philosophy, called “Discovering Buddhism” offered by the Western Buddhist organization called the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT).

You are welcome to join in at any time and do not need any previous experience in Buddhism to participate in and benefit from this course. As the Dalai Lama says, "Don't try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a better Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are."

Session five

- Dealing with obstacles in meditation- Excitement and regret, attachment, dullness or sleepiness, Depression,

Session six

  • Overcoming obstacles to meditation
  • Setting a regular practice
