Event description

Description

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board coaches, Kourtney Derouin and Julie Coburn, are hosting a training session for volunteers who are, or will be, supporting English Language Learners (students learning English) in OCDSB schools who need support in both language acquisition and academic upgrading. This workshop will give you some tools and strategies to help you support newcomer students, and other students learning English.

NOTE: All trained volunteers must commit to volunteering weekly for 2-3 hours for at least one school term (until April* or June and ideally returning in September), collaborate with the educator to support students learning English, and complete an impact evaluation survey at the end of each term.

*Post-secondary students who live out of town can volunteer until the end of their semester.

NOTE: if you have not received your Police Vulnerable Sector Check prior to the workshop date, you can attend the workshop but will not be allowed to volunteer until you have met all requirements of the screening process.

Registration on Eventbrite is required.

Parking is available in the lot. If the sign says the lot is full, double-check as it is often full in the morning but has availability in the afternoon.
