About this event

NOTE The workshop takes place in two parts: Part 1 Saturday, July 31, 10.30 AM - 1 PM and Part 2 Sunday, August 1, 10.30 AM - 1 PM.

This workshop spread over two mornings will provide you with a full understanding of the creative non-fiction form. It will guide you through the elements of non-fiction including voice, narrative, plot, characterisation, reflection, setting, point of view, & theme. The workshop will be facilitated in a friendly manner using, discussion, writing exercises, and personal feedback. Whether you are a beginning or a more experienced writer, the workshop is designed to allow you to develop at your pace and to your own level.

Your facilitator, Gerard Beirne, has been teaching writing for 30 years and has published 6 books of fiction and poetry. Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year Award winner, shortlisted for the Danuta Gleed Literary Award (Best First Collection of Short Stories), Bord Gais Irish Book Awards (Short Story), and Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award.

Organizer Creative Writing with Gerard Beirne

Organizer of How to Write Successful Creative Non-Fiction

Gerard Beirne has been teaching writing for 25 years with a specialty in English Essay & Academic Writing – recently IT Sligo and 8 years at the University of New Brunswick (Canada) English/Creative Writing Dept. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing (USA) and has published 6 books of fiction and poetry.

He is a past winner of the Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year Award. His first novel was shortlisted for The Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award & his recent collection of stories for The Danuta Gleed Literary Award. He was nominated for the 2016 & 2017 Bord Gais Irish Book Awards. His short story, Sightings of Bono, was adapted as a short film featuring Bono.
