This session will provide a basic introduction to using Linux and the command-line interface in order to access Compute Canada and WestGrid high performance computing (HPC) resources.
The topics covered in this talk include:

Basics of computing with high performance computers

Filesystem hierarchy

Basic linux commands for navigating filesystem

cd, ls, pwd, mkdir

Basic linux commands for file handling

mv, cp, rm, grep, more, less, head, tail, cat

Using the manual command (man) to get more details on linux command line options

Downloading and decompressing files from the internet

wget, gunzip, gzip
Who Should Attend:

Anyone interested in learning Linux or using Compute Canada / WestGrid resources. If you do not have a Compute Canada account, a guest account can be created for you for use during this session.
