HTC Vive Development Workshop
Sat, Jun 3, 2017, 9:00 AM – Sun, Jun 4, 2017, 5:00 PM MDT
Join us June 3rd - 4th, 2017 for Calgary’s first HTC Vive Virtual Reality Development Workshop. Starting from scratch, you'll learn to build a VR game for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift using Unity. Throughout the workshop you'll have the help of Academy of VR's instructors and we will supply the VR headsets, controllers and computers for testing. During the afterparty you'll have time to get to know a community of VR devs and learn how to startup your own VR projects.
By the end of the VR Developer Workshop you will have gone through 8 modules of building and testing a PC VR game.
We'll provide you with:
2 days of VR training with professional developers from Academy of VR
HTC Vive's, Oculus Rifts and VR ready computers for testing your project
A full course curriculum outlining all 8 development modules in detail
A catered dinner (Italian!)
The opportunity to play nearly every VR experience on the Vive & Oculus Rift during downtime (seriously we have almost everything!)
You'll learn to:
Build a Vive game from scratch in Unity
Utilize the SteamVR SDK
Use the Vive VR headset + controllers for game input
You'll leave with:
An HTC Vive project you can show off and build upon
A stronger understanding of how to use Unity to create your own HTC Vive projects
A network of friends and colleagues who are passionate about VR
Please bring your laptop or computer with Unity version 5.0 (free) installed for game development (Mac's are acceptable).
A mouse with a scroll wheel is highly recommended (trust us, it makes a huge difference)
A basic understanding of programming (if you have never done programming, we recommend the Udacity Intro to Programming Nanodegree)
Jason Campbell, Amanda End and Daniel Nascimento have a combined 10+ years of experience building VR/AR software and applications in Unity. They've worked on professional projects that include commercial releases for large companies and VR studios, independent game contracts as well as self-publishing original content on platforms like Steam.
