Librarians Without Borders University of Toronto Chapter invites you to The Human Library event! Meet with prominent information professionals from the CBC, Centennial College, Toronto Public Library, and many more. Space is limited so reserve your spot today.

The event will take place in The Inforum (BL404) at the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto.

Eric Schwab - Manager of Preservation & Digitization

Toronto Reference Library

- Eric oversees a staff including paper conservators, a bookbinder, an exhibits designer, a photographer and several digital collections technicians. He and his staff is responsible for digitizing and preserving items primarily from Special Collections and managing a gallery program to promote access to these items.Prior to this, Mr. Schwab was the Manager of Imaging Services at OCAD University and before that he was the Assistant Director of the Knight Visual Resources Facility in the College of Architecture, Art & Planning at Cornell University.


Sarah Shujah Librarian

Centennial College

- Sarah is a science librarian at Centennial College and the OCULA President. Her interests include information literacy, hackathons, and institutional repositories. She has facilitated workshops for librarians on the ACRL IL Framework at OISE, Carleton University and Seneca College, is the brainchild of the York University Library annual hackathon, and is currently working on an institutional repository project for Centennial College Libraries. Sarah challenges herself in understanding trends in emerging technologies, information literacy, and inclusion.

Erica SumResearch Officer

UofT Division of University of Advancement

- Erica Sum is a Research Officer at the University of Toronto’s Division of University Advancement. Her previous research experience spans non-profit organizations, academic research and special libraries. She is also a former Director of CASLIS Toronto and participant in Librarians Without Borders’ Guatemala Service Trip.

Mabel HoSenior Online Communications & Engagement Lead

Toronto Public Library

- Mabel is the Senior Online Communications & Engagement Lead at Toronto Public Library (TPL). She is responsible for developing and implementing online engagement strategies to advance TPL’s organizational goals across online communications channels including social media, blogs, enewsletter, and designated website sections. Mabel completed her Master of Information at the iSchool, University of Toronto, in 2016 specializing in the area of User Experience Design.

Maria Cipriano Senior Collections Specialist

Toronto Public Library

- Maria is a Senior Collections Specialist at the Toronto Public Library and is responsible for adult digital collections including ebooks, digital magazines, and other streaming services. She has over 25 years of collection development experience in public libraries and is a keen advocate of digital collections. Maria is also actively involved in staff training and community outreach.

Elsa NganSenior Services Specialist, Multicultural Services

Toronto Public Library

- Elsa Ngan holds both her Master of Information Studies degree and Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Toronto. She is presently the Senior Services Specialist, Multicultural Services of Toronto Public Library. Her professional experience includes children’s and youth services, readers’ advisory, programming, and community outreach. She was active on the Canadian Library Association’s Young Adult Book Award Committee for five years. She served on the Ontario Public Library Association’s Readers’ Advisory Committee for three years. During her downtime, Elsa enjoys folding new origami models and trying different cultural cuisines.


Lisa Heggum - Manager of Youth Services & Special Projects

Toronto Public Library

- Lisa Heggum has been a public librarian advocating for youth support and services for more than 20 years. She began her career at Queens Library in New York City, has worked at Mississauga and Pickering public libraries, and currently manages Youth Services at Toronto Public Library.


Gavin Nettlefold - Access & Privacy Officer

City of Toronto

Gavin attended the iSchool (then the Faculty of Information Studies) after completing an undergraduate degree in Classical Studies. He focused mostly on academic librarianship, but ended up working as a legal librarian at a law firm in Toronto. In 2007, he switched from the private sector to the public sector, focusing on information management and privacy. In 2008, he took a position with a similar focus at Toronto Public Library. In 2016, Gavin switched to focus on access to information with the City of Toronto, where he currently works.
