Event description

Description

You are likely aware of the Human Rights Code, but how does it come into play in a townhouse, condo or bare land strata? How does it work alongside the Strata Property Act?

Whether you are a council member, property manager or insurance professional, this seminar will help you understand a strata corporation's duties and obligations. For owners, caregivers, family members or those thinking of purchasing in a strata, this seminar will help you understand the situations when accommodations can and cannot be made.

Guest speaker: Lawyer Shawn M. Smith, Partner - Cleveland Doan LLP

Shawn will talk about these and many other facets of how the Human Rights Code affects the daily lives of those living in strata corporations.

  • how and why the Human Rights Code applies to strata corporations
  • how it applies in certain areas (i.e. pets, smoking, physical disabilities)
  • why it doesn't apply in others (i.e. age restrictions)
  • how to handle a request for accommodation under the Code
  • what to do if a strata corporation fails to accommodate an owner
