ABOUT THE HUMMINGBIRD GALA
Our signature and showcase fundraiser, the 2017 Hummingbird Gala will be taking place on April 28, at the Moonflower Room in the Enjoy Centre. This premiere 500 person gala provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with researchers, politicians, health care professionals, stakeholders and of course people living with diabetes.

ALBERTA DIABETES FOUNDATION
The Alberta Diabetes Foundation exists because we are not afraid to take risks. Albertans have always been innovators in diabetes research starting with the discovery of insulin. One of the greatest breakthroughs happened in Alberta because our Foundation funded the first successful islet transplant when others refused to do so. We then funded ten years of clinical trials helping establish the Edmonton Protocol. We continue to fund life-changing research in Alberta to find a cure for diabetes.

CANADIAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION
In 1953, what we know today as the Canadian Diabetes Association was formed. The Canadian Diabetes Association works to lead the fight against diabetes by helping people with diabetes live healthy lives while we work to find a cure. It encourages a healthy lifestyle as the best method of prevention, and represents the interests of those with diabetes to government, business, and the public.

HUMMINGBIRD GALA GOALS
This year the goal is to raise $500,000 hoping that Alberta will lift our spirits with another banner year.

LIFE CHANGING DIABETES RESEARCH & PROGRAMMING IN ALBERTA
Research
Clinical trials taking place at Alberta Diabetes Institute support innovative research. Participating in these clinical trials gives Albertans first access to these diabetes breakthroughs. In doing this, the Alberta Diabetes Foundation is a key stakeholder in bridging critical research to improved patient outcomes. Together we are building a legacy of diabetes research excellence in Alberta.

Programming
Today, the Canadian Diabetes Association is proud to be the only national provider of summer camp programs for children and youth living with type 1 diabetes. Camp Jean Nelson has been in operation in Alberta since 1957 and welcomes more than 200 children and youth and 80 families living with type 1 diabetes every year to enjoy an authentic camp experience in a medically accommodating environment.
