Friday, Feb 21 - 9:00AM – 3:00PM: 

Weaving with the Hundred Languages to Create Democratic Learning Spaces with Suzanne Axelsson

In this hands-on workshop participants will engage with the 100 languages through play and playful interactions with people and material. Topics covered in this workshop are:

• the 100 languages as a tool for learning

• playful pedagogy

• pedagogical documentation

• pedagogy of listening

• using philosophy for children to create collaborative spaces for democracy and dialogue

 

Saturday, Feb 22 - 9:00AM – 3:00PM: 

Digital & Analog: The Role of Technology in Pedagogical Spaces with Suzanne Axelsson

Technology has always been a big part of human culture; our pedagogical spaces should reflect the possibilities that the digital world offers children. In this playful workshop, participants will learn about these possibilities through dialogue with the digital world. Topics covered in this workshop are:

• understanding the role of technology in pedagogical spaces

• recognizing the possibilities with the digital world

• discovering the connections between the digital and analog world

• exploring ways to introduce the magical connections of digital and analog in learning spaces

• discussing the role of pedagogical documentation in the process

Friday, February 21, 2020 and Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive, Vancouver, BC

Participants can choose to purchase the two-day ticket for $50 (a $210 discount) plus the Pre-conference evening workshop for $20 (a $20 discount) or just one of these options.

 

 ********FEE REDUCTION*********

In partnership with the Province of British Columbia - Ministry of Children and Family Development and the Government of Canada, Westcoast Childcare Resource Centre (WCCRC) has established the BC Professional Development Bursary Fund for Early Childhood Educators and other childcare providers in BC.

This bursary contributes $210 for each attendee of our two-day conference. This means attendees will now pay $50 instead of of the original price of $260.

If you are travelling more than 75 Kilometers to attend this conference, or if you are from a rural or Indigenous community, please contact Maryam (maryam@froghollow.bc.ca) for possible additional financial support for transportation and accommodation.

About Suzanne Axelsson

Suzanne has a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Sheffield, UK, where she focused on the relevance of the Reggio Emilia Approach in education today, language development, and pedagogical documentation as a tool for children and adults.

Suzanne works at Stockholm University teaching courses in the preschool teacher programme, and as a consultant in early years settings supporting educators with their democratic process. She also holds hands-on workshops with educators to explore how play is an essential language of learning, how to use philosophy with children, and how STEAM can be woven into play.

At Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House's Reggio-Inspired Learning Centre, it is our intent to share our thoughts and reflections and to provide leadership and training regarding the Reggio Emilia approach with our community. We work in partnership with individuals and organizations inspired by this approach and hope to become a place to bring together ongoing, meaningful dialogues that create knowledge, inspire and advocate for the rights of children as active citizens of today.
