Inside the world of I CARE WHAT YOU THINK, failure becomes beautiful, movement becomes honest, performance becomes transparent, ugliness becomes necessary, and our wishes, both those of the audience and performers, become the heart of the work. In this performance, we ask if we can be better together? The artists oscillate between observation and action. They make choices. Wish for things. In considering a perfect dance, they recognize that it is not the pursuit of an unattainable ideal that drives them, but a search for connection – personal and universal — and one that is beautifully flawed. The dance, like the choices we make everyday, exists in the spaces between, around and within us all. We act alone and we act together.

Created & performed by James Gnam/plastic orchid factory + Vanessa Goodman/Action at a Distance + Jane Osborne + James Proudfoot. Produced by plastic orchid factory Presentation partner Boca del Lupo at Performance Works.

ABOUT PLASTIC ORCHID FACTORY plastic orchid factory is an artist-run, interdisciplinary organization that uses the body as a site for social commentary. Established in 2008, plastic orchid develops methodologies for creation that foster engagement, play, and exploration with artists from a diversity of backgrounds and practices. Through collaboration, research and performance, plastic orchid deftly probes connections between contemporary bodies and the social, political and technological landscapes that they inhabit. We acknowledges that our space and our work are located in the heart of Historic Chinatown on the unceded, ancestral and traditional Coast Salish territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and səlili̓lw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) people. As artist that live, work and play on these lands, we strive to be allies with, to learn from and to acknowledge the rights of indigenous peoples.
