IAFCI Central Canada Chapter Luncheon
Wed, 10 May 2017, 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM EDT
The IAFCI Central Canada Chapter is pleased to present our second lunch meeting of 2017 on Wednesday May 10th.
Please join us for a presentation by Detective's Mike Kelly and Tim Trotter of the Toronto Police Financial Crimes Unit. Detective's Kelly and Trotter will be giving a presentation on Project Murphy.
Project Murphy was a year long investigation into a group known as The Black Axe. This group was responsible for mass marketing fraud and money laundering operations. The investigation found an estimated 200 members of the criminal organization operating in Canada. The subsequent arrest of its bookkeeper discovered that the group had laundered more than $500 million in an 11 month period. Project Murphy led to the creation of a template other agencies could use to investigate this criminal organization and a greater understanding of how it uses illicit financial practices worldwide.
