About this event

If you register after 7 pm MT Thursday July 15, 2021- you have to rent/bring your own camping gear.

Join us for a weekend of camping, hiking, and exploring the Athabasca Glacier on Treaty 6 and Treaty 8 as well as the traditional lands of the Beaver, Cree, Ojibway, Secwépemc, Stoney, and Métis. We will camp in one of the first come first serve sites along the icefield parkway (Willcox or Icefield campground)from the night of Friday, July 16th to Sunday, July 18th.

We ask our allies to allow BIPOC members only to register for this event. Thank you! We love our allies, friends, and partners, but we have very limited spots and want to give BIPOC the opportunity to try this.

BIPOC of Alberta, let's connect! We usually only have time to chat during event time. We would like to extend our time together.

July 16th - meeting at one of the campgrounds close to Columbia Icefields area. Details will be sent closer to the date.

July 17th - Full day walk beginning at 9:30 AM from the Toe of the Glacier parking lot. This will be guided by Indigenous guide Tim Patterson from Zuc'min Guiding "Big Ice: Indigenous Perspectives: will provide guests with an opportunity to learn about the historical and current significance of the Columbia Icefield region through an Indigenous lens"

July 18th - Partial day hike (about 4-5 hours or so), ending by 2:30/3pm. This will be guided by Athabasca Icewalks staff, and will be designed for a hike in the Icefields centre vicinity off the beaten path.

Camping gear will be made available if you do not have your own. A detailed list of what to bring will be provided. Please do not let transportation and gear be your barriers, we will try our best to assist in any way possible to make the trip happen. Email alberta@colourthetrails.com with any questions.

Guests must provide their own food for the weekend: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

Space is very limtied. Please do not buy multiple tickets or share the link during members only access, as we would love to provide fair opportunity to all community members.

Commitment is essential to keep the event fun and accessible, if you cannot make it, please give a 48-hour notice so that your spot can be given to another person who may want to join. Last minute cancellation is a lost spot for someone else.
