As an agent of Discovery Foundation's Tech4Impact program, Coast Capital Savings Venture Connection will offer comprehensive support to teams interested in competing in the national Innovative Design for Accessibility student competition by offering workshops, mentor sessions, and application support.

This session will offer teams support in ideating solutions, addressing the chosen accessibility problem, and refining current ideas.

The Innovative Design for Accessibility (IDeA) student competition aims to inspire students to use their creativity to develop innovative, cost-effective and practical solutions to accessibility-related issues resulting in communities that are more accessible for persons with disabilities.

The objectives of the program are:

  • to contribute to the creation of a culture of accessibility in Canada
  • to motivate students to think about accessibility issues and to include accessibility in their creation of social and technological innovations now and in the future
  • to develop cost-effective, practical and innovative concepts, programs, initiatives or designs that address every day accessibility issues


Workshop Mentor


Dave Thomas

Dave Thomas is an executive, business consultant and advisor for a number of technology companies and manages the Rocket Builders ‘Market Readiness Program’. Recent positions and projects include; Equity Capital Program Evaluation in conjunction with UBC and a guest lecturer at New Ventures BC.

He is also the General Manager of the Canadian Financing Forum, matching North American Corporate and VC investors with serious entrepreneurs looking to build world-class technology companies. Thomas has worked with a series of start-ups over the past decade and was a member of the management team for four venture backed tech companies.

He has an MBA from UBC and was a member of the coaching staff for Canada’s Olympic Sailing Team on four occasions. An enthusiastic sailor, Thomas is a partner in two sailing schools, one at Jericho in Vancouver and a second in Shenzhen China.
