About this event
This workshop tackles the process of developing new concepts or ideas that are designed to address well-defined clinical needs. Topics that will be covered include: (i) why ideation matters to innovation and new product development; (ii) ideation methods; and (iii) methods for finding the best ideas among a large quantity of ideas.
The workshop also includes a group brainstorming activity where attendees will break into groups and will be guided through a series of brainstorming methods to develop a new medical device concept.
Guest Speaker: Dr. Joseph Ferenbok
Dr. Joseph Ferenbok is currently the director of the Translational Research Program in the Institute of Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine. He is also the Co-Director of the Health Innovation Hub (H2i), the Faculty of Medicine’s campus linked accelerator. Dr. Ferenbok’s teaching interests centre on the translation and mobilization of knowledge across disciplinary contexts using design-thinking strategies among multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams. His teaching has spanned media design, legal issues in developing technologies, innovation and commercialization strategies and interdisciplinary collaboration for knowledge translation and mobilization. He had also been exploring a range of possibilities for training and applied research involving simulations, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and 3D interaction, scanning and printing.
