IGnite: Research Stories to Inspire Generations
Event Information
About this event
Free event for all ages!
Come and be inspired by the stories of discovery from Researchers at Queen’s University. Our speakers will give a short presentation on their area of study and the impact they have had on the world.
Our speakers are selected not only for their accomplishments but also for their ability to give engaging presentations and tell the story of their research to a wide variety of audiences. This makes IGnite accessible to anyone curious enough to attend. IGnite hopes to be the spark that inspires your family and our brilliant Kingston community.
Professor of Astroparticle Physics Aaron Vincent will give a talk titled “What is the flavour of a cosmic neutrino,” a detective story to understand some of the most energetic particles ever seen in the Universe. Professor of Aboriginal Education Lindsay Morcom will give a talk titled “Niinwi-Giinwaa-Giinwi: Moving from We and You to Us,” focusing on ally-building in teacher education. Two students doing related work will also give brief presentations on how they are involved in this research.
The evening talks begin at 6:30pm and are followed by a reception featuring some light snacks, the Queen’s Hyperloop Design Team, The Queen’s Observatory and the Kingston astronomy club, as well as the Art of Research and Global Physics Photowalk Exhibits, the dark matter experiment NEWS-G, the always popular particle cloud chamber from the McDonald Institute Visitor Centre, and opportunities to connect with the speakers and others who are doing inspiring research at Queen’s.
**Note tickets do not secure a seat during the talks, so please arrive early.**
**Photos will be taken at the event. Please let a member of the McDonald Institute Team know if you would like to not have your photo taken.**
