This facilitated open studio will provide the materials and inspiration for participants to create their own mythological creatures. Mixed media techniques will be introduced and demonstrated to support beginners to bring their imaginary creatures to life. The open studio is a supportive and creative environment for beginners and experienced artists to explore their creativity and network with others who have a passion for mythological creatures. Derek Armstrong will inspire participants with his knowledge of mermaids, centaurs, dragons, and more.

Derek Armstrong graduated from Emily Carr University in 2017. His works include mixed media, comic art, painting and sculpture. He has worked with Dale Villjuan from community living sources over the last six years. In 2017, he created his first art book of mythological creatures. He has exhibited work at the Rain City Blue show, the Inclusion Posabilities Art Show, and the 2017 Emily Carr Grad Show.His dream is to become an animator for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
