Event description

Description

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a scientist in the public eye? What makes science so important, fascinating, and necessary to discuss? How can outbreaks of infectious diseases be prevented and managed?

Find out with Dr. Jennifer Gardy – a trailblazing scientist and science communicator who was dubbed by The Globe and Mail as “the new Suzuki”.

The Forum is excited to partner again with the GISS Student Council to present another speaker who will inspire, engage and empower both students and adults alike to lead.

Jennifer Gardy is a Senior Scientist in Genomics at the BC Centre for Disease Control and an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the UBC. Gardy has developed a new scientific field to better understand how infectious diseases spread and lead to outbreaks.

Gardy also works in science media. She regularly hosts episodes of CBC’s The Nature of Things and has guest hosted Discovery Channel’s Daily Planet. Gardy has even written a children’s book about microbes for Owl Kids Books.

Join Dr. Jennifer Gardy for a fun and fascinating conversation about microbes, science, television, and changing the world!

Tickets: $15 – 2018 Forum Members; $20 – General Public. Please note, students do not require tickets to attend.
