From Professor Prosser:
What happens when academics venture away from purely intellectual pursuits and sully their hands with translational ideas?
Is this good for industry or should they stay in their ivory towers? I will give a layman’s explanation of several long-term projects in my laboratory.
Specifically, this will include: 1) An introduction to Magnetic Resonance Imaging and our efforts to quantify drug delivery clearance and biodistribution, 2) Revisiting enzymes and receptors and understanding their mechanistic underpinnings. Funding agencies are unabashedly biased toward translational science - that is improving quality of life or stimulating our economy. I would like to make a case for basic science and describe how such pursuits and discoveries have the potential to impact the Biotechnology space.
