Sonia Kang: Building Resilience in Times of Crisis

In the midst of this extraordinary global pandemic, our ordinary lives have been dramatically disrupted. Our typical duties and responsibilities, and the passage of the usual happy, sad, and mundane events continue, but we must now experience them in very different ways. With our daily routines, schedules, and sensory experiences disrupted in this way, we can be left feeling like we have lost our sense of self and our control over our own lives.

This webinar explores the science of resilience, what it means to "feel like yourself," the importance of recognizing what is under your control and what is not, and how to recover and protect that sense of self in the midst of massive upheaval and uncertainty.

Dr. Sonia Kang is a distinguished member of the University of Toronto and is:

  • The Canada Research Chair in Identity, Diversity, and Inclusion,
  • An Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management,
  • A Faculty Research Fellow at the Rotman School of Management’s Institute for Gender and the Economy (GATE), and
  • Chief Scientist, Organizations in the Behavioural Economics in Action Research Centre at Rotman (BEAR).

Sonia received her PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Toronto and completed a SSHRC Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Northwestern University.
