Event description

Immigrant Women: Challenges, Barriers, and Supports to Start a Business in Alberta.

“Immigrant women can contribute to Canadian economic development as they are growing in numbers and significantly underrepresented in the labour force.” - Sara Rose Taylor, PhD, Research Associate, National Immigration Centre, The Conference Board of Canada.

This statement speaks to the opportunities and challenges that immigrant women face in the Canadian employment market and the same statement can apply to the representation of immigrant women entrepreneurs in Canada.

In this webinar, we discuss challenges and barriers that immigrant women in Alberta may face when starting businesses, including:

  • Experience in Canadian Industry/Job Market

  • Exposure to Canadian Culture and Market Knowledge

  • Access to Financing Options

  • Knowledge about Credit

  • Personal and Business Networks and Connections

  • Access to Child Care

and more…

Alongside the discussion of challenges and barriers faced by immigrant women, we will also explore possible solutions that can help them overcome some of these obstacles.

Facilitated by: Kiran Sagoo, Financing Specialist, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE)
