Description

iMPAct: Exceptional Experiences in Mental & Physical Health Care

Bringing together patients, families, health care providers and the community to create exceptional experiences in mental and physical health care.

The Medical Psychiatry Alliance (MPA) provides exceptional experiences for patients, families, and health care providers, by integrating mental and physical health, and by facilitating collaboration and partnership.

iMPAct, the 2018 MPA Conference, will highlight innovative initiatives that currently integrate mental and physical health, and engage diverse participants to co-create the future of exceptional care. The conference is an opportunity to be inspired by experts in this field, participate in interactive project showcases, and build exciting connections with others in the community.

Together, we will create a vision for exceptional experiences that integrates mental and physical health, and facilitates partnerships between institutions, health care providers, patients, families, and communities.

What is the MPA?

The Medical Psychiatry Alliance, the first-of-its-kind in Canada, is a collaborative partnership between The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, The Hospital for Sick Children, Trillium Health Partners and the University of Toronto in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and an extraordinarily generous donor. The MPA is dedicated to transforming the delivery of mental and physical health care for patients who live with physical and psychiatric illness or medically unexplained symptoms. The MPA provides integrated care, to a large patient population, across the lifespan, who reach out to the health system and have been previously underserved. The MPA has four goals:

  • Improve the quality of life and increase life expectancy for those with co-occurring mental and physical conditions, while reducing the burden on families, the health care system and society

  • Create a new model of clinical care to support patients with co-occurring mental and physical illnesses.

  • Teach current and future health professionals how to prevent, diagnose, and treat mental and physical illness.

  • Deepen our understanding of the interaction between body and brain regarding co-occurring mental and physical illnesses

To meet the challenge of treating people with co-morbidities and to effect system-wide change, the MPA has created an unprecedented network of excellence supported by a new approach to the education of health professionals and through innovations driven by research.
