Event description

Description

Engravings have long been a tradition in printmaking. Participants in this workshop will learn simple dry-point etching techniques in plexi-glass plates or old CD’s, to create a print with the sophisticated look of an engraving. This dry-point etching technique is non-toxic and uses no chemical process. Participants will learn how to hand-engrave their photo or drawing into a plexi-glass plate, ink it with water-based inks and print it with a mini-printing press to achieve a professional look.

More than one print can be made from a plate. This technique is fun and will enhance understanding of etching through first-hand experience. The first day of the workshop will cover introduction and material overview, step-by-step instruction and many demonstrations of the complete technique. Participants should be able finished a print the first day. The second day of the workshop enables further exploration of printing with more colours and papers, printing more copies of their etching, finishing an etching, adding more detail or creating a second piece. The instructor will ensure one-on-one instruction and is willing to guide any personal project-idea towards completion.
