The Leighton Art Centre invites you to come learn and create with some of the artists participating in the exhibition Impressions: A Printmaking Exhibition, open from June 24 to September 24 2017.

In this two-day workshop, artist and instructor Carrie Phillips Kieser will guide you through the process of creating an image on linoleum to produce a small edition of reductive relief prints.

During the workshop, you can expect to learn the following techniques and skills:

  • Introduction to the carving tools and techniques
  • Overview of the lino printing process
  • Paper tearing and registration (Japanese and rag paper)
  • Practice of the inking and printing process with hand printing and a printing press
  • Practice the process of transferring an image to lino block

SUPPLIES

Most supplies are included in this workshop.

Please bring the following supplies with you the day of the workshop:

  • Old clothes and/ or apron (we will be working with oil based ink)
  • Reference images
  • Any papers or materials you would like to try to print on
  • Notebook or sketchbook for notes
  • Any preferred art/print supplies
  • Lunch and snacks for the day

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Carrie Phillips Kieser is a Calgary based, print media artist.nBorn on the east coast of Canada, the movements of the sea, the treasures found at its edge and the sense of an inevitable loss, has not ceased to influence the patterns of growth in her work. She graduated from Mount Allison University with a BA in Art History and Fine art. She has exhibited and presented her art nationally and internationally since 2009. She is currently the Executive Director of Alberta Printmakers Gallery and Studio, a non profit artist run center dedicated to increase public awareness of print media.
