Event description

Description

Improv U is a long-running summer camp program for high school students ages 13 to 18 that provides the opportunity for students of improv – new and old – to get together and hone their skills in a safe, inclusive and fun environment. Known as the best campus ever, Improv U is the most exciting way to spend your summer. Learn the art of improvisation from the best instructors from across the country while making lifelong friendships with their camp peers!

The Improv U Program:

Each year, Improv U at Bishops University (in Sherbrooke, Quebec), offers young improvisors the opportunity to further promote their artistic expression as part of a group of ensembles that participate in workshops, learn the ins-and-outs of producing shows and creating scenes while working with different trainers. Students also get a number of performance opportunities during their stay at camp, where they get to demonstrate what they’ve learned in front of a loving audience of their fellow campers and staff. Improv U is the ultimate combination of the best improvisational training Canada has to offer and fun varsity style activities. Campers participate in games, swimming, intramural sports between working together on performance projects. And dance parties. So many dance parties. For improvisers of all skill and experience levels.

Leadership Program:

The Leadership Program is designed for young people who are ready to take the next step, both as improvisers and youth leaders. Members of the leadership program take workshops to grow their improvisation skill set, and they also take seminars designed to enhance their abilities as leaders and mentors of youth. This program is both challenging and rewarding and vital for those improvisers who are interested in assisting in the growth of the next generation. Must be a grade 12 student (as of September 2018) or a recent high school graduate. Acceptance is by application only. Applications are a part of registration.

Registration includes:

  • 6 nights accommodations
  • 6 days of improv and theatre workshops, field activities as well as exciting social and team building activities
  • 3 meals per day in the campus’ extensive all-you-can-eat cafeteria featuring a wide range of dietary options

  • placement in both a performance ensemble and in a “House” where you’ll work, perform and play with new friends from across Canada
  • up to 5 performance opportunities in the state-of-the-art Turner Studio Theatre
